Prayer
Holy Week
Maundy Thursday
Father God,
We gather again in this holy week to worship you,
As we meet, different communities of faith gathered together,
Open our eyes to the beauty and power of Jesus self-giving love.
Lord Jesus,
You became our servant that we might know life in all its everlasting fullness.
You stooped to wash the disciples’ feet,
And you shared your last meal with friends around a table
Knowing that one of them would betray you,
Another would deny you,
And the rest would flee, abandoning you.
Yet, still you loved them
Still your reached out in fellowship.
Just as tonight,
Still you love us
Still tonight you want to reach out and touch our hearts
To overwhelm us with your love.
Lord God,
As we worship tonight
Let the good news of Jesus
Take on new meaning in our lives
Enable us to praise not just with our mouths but with our hearts
Prepare us not just to experience the words of worship
But also to experience your presence in our midst
Lord God right now we declare our love,
Father Son and Spirit
We adore you
Father,
Forgive us all that is sinful in our lives,
Forgive us all the things that we do against your will,
Forgive us all the things we do which cause you hurt
And forgive us for our unwillingness to let Jesus be Lord of all our lives
Forgive for those areas of control that we hang onto.
Father,
Instead lead us in the way of Jesus
Give us the courage to be faithful followers
Who serve only you.
Lord,
Bless us in this service tonight
As we sing and as we pray
As we hear your word read and preached
And as we share the bread and the wine together,
Let us grow in our faith
Let us hold nothing back
In Jesus name,
Amen

Holy Week
Good Friday
Lord God,
Tonight all creation stands in stilled awe -
Jesus has died!
The son of God had his hands nailed to a cross;
The king of kings wore a crown of thorns;
Your son gasped his last breath in agony;
All because of love for us.
So out of our busy lives we come
With so many thoughts about others things buzzing around our minds
So many emotions and concerns all jumbled up inside.
Still our hearts and minds Lord,
Let the awe of the events of Good Friday strike to the very core of our being
Let us also recognise the Lord of all things
Nailed to the cross for each of us.
Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour
We worship you
We give you the praise on our lips and in our hearts
Almighty God
Jesus died for our sins
We open our hearts now and confess those sins before you
All the wrong doing and wrong thinking
All the failure to give you our whole lives
All the times when we have turned away from a neighbour in need.
SILENCE
Lord God,
At the foot of the cross we bow
And in the name of Jesus Christ
We ask for forgiveness.
Lord,
In faith make us whole again.
Father,
In Jesus death
You broke down all the walls that separate us from your presence
In worship now break down whatever causes us to loss our focus on you
Be in our midst as we gather tonight
In prayer and praise
In the word read and preached
In fellowship with each other
Fill us with your spirit
We ask in the name of Jesus Christ
Our Lord and saviour
Amen
