Christmas Eve
Father God,
This is a time of the year which means so much to us in so many ways,
There is so much excitement as the kids await their presents,
There is are so many hopes pinned on the day
As families gather and spend time together
There is so much atmosphere with tinsel and trees and lights,
It lifts our heart.
Lord,
It great that there is so much that is special at Christmas,
So much that touches our hearts,
But above all of these things like the star atop the Christmas tree,
Stands the birth of Jesus
Our saviour
Father,
As we gather tonight enable us to pause midst the hustle and the bustle,
And to discover your peace in our lives,
As we hear those well known words of angels and stables and shepherds and the baby, son of God,
As we sing our the words of carols we know so well,
Invoke within us a sense of your nearness,
And through the story is so well known,
Awaken within us a fresh sense of your love for us,
Which knows no limits,
And which comes among us in the Christ-child.
Christmas Morning
Lord God,
In all the hustle and bustle of Christmas
The ceremony and tradition with which we surround it,
We can lose sight sometimes of the joy at the heart of Christmas,
We can pout so much energy into having a good time,
That we forget what it is we are meant to be celebrating.
Lord God, Thank you for all that is special about today
For the joy and excitement of children,
For the pleasure of family and friends gathered round,
For laughter and happiness,
The giving and receiving.
But Lord, Remind us what this time is really all about,
A child born in a stable,
A saviour for all the world,
Let the glad tidings of the angels,
The news of great joy for all the world,
Stir our hearts today.
Whatever we bring it could never replay for Jesus,
Whatever we might sacrifice it can scarcely begin to express our thanks that you embrace each of us,
But what we can offer and gladly bring to you today Is our praise, our adoration
Like the choirs of angels on the night of his birth
We sing your praise and tell out the good news.
Like the shepherds, returning from the manger
We give you the glory for all that we have seen and heard
Like the magi, Knelling in wonder
We offer you our commitment our love and our lives
For you have blessed us greatly Lord God.
Lord God, Let the love the lead to the stable and the cross, Penetrate into our lives,
